6th Grade Math: This week the sixth grade class created some pages in their interactive notebooks on Order of Operations and Exponents. The class then practiced using the order of operations to solve problems. They also practiced forms of numbers using exponents. Next week we will only have 3 classes due to MAPS testing and PBIS. Monday will be MAPS testing and Friday will be PBIS. Please make sure that students get a good night sleep and eat a good breakfast during our week of testing.
7A Math: This week we concluded Chapter 1 with an assessment and began Chapter 2. In chapter 2 we will be exploring integers, their operations and what they represent in the world. Students worked on vocabulary and computation with integers. Next week we will only have three classes. One class we will be participating in a schoolwide PBIS activity and another day we will be in the computer lab participating in MAPS testing. Please make sure students eat a good breakfast and get a good night’s sleep each night next week.
7B Math: Order of Operations and Properties of Numbers were our focus this week. Students participated in math stations where they practiced using their calculators for exponents, solving problems using the Order of Operations, writing algebraic expressions and identifying number properties. Students also took their first math quiz of the year. Please be sure to talk with your student about their progress in math and check Powerschool weekly to see how your student is doing.
8th Grade Math: Students took their first math quiz on computation and rational numbers this week. Please be sure to check Powerschool to see the latest grade update. Now that the students will apply their skills to solving equations. We will work in math stations to practice computation, solving of equations, and using calculators as a tool. Next week we will continue to work on the solving of equations, moving from one step equations to multi-step equations.
Algebra: The students starting working through Chapter 3 this week. The focus of chapter 3 is inequalities, graphing them, solving them and applying them to situations. Students are doing a great job using Pearsonrealize to complete assignments, find tutorials and reviewing material. Please log on to Powerschool to check your student’s progress.
