Algebra students explored mathematical patterns. They used Pascal's Triangle to discover patterns and discover how this famous triangle can help with numbers and solving problems. 7th graders practiced their communication skills this week. In groups of 3, they worked together switching communication roles. Each student had to take a turn giving directions, following directions and observing directions. Students found that even though the pictures they were giving the directions for were not complicated, the process of explaining and listening carefully were difficult. Students did a fantastic job! Sixth Grade Math- It has been a fantastic start to the year. This week we went over morning routine, policies, and the student handbook. We also watched videos that showed how our brains can grow, how mindset is important, and that math is everywhere. Students did an excellent job learning about their new responsibilities, including their locks. If you have any questions, you can reach Ms. Bozio by phone or email. 7A Math-- This week students set up their iPads, email, and prepared themselves to be ready for the year of math to come. We also spent a little time seeing how well we knew one another. Lillyan Dehne knew me the best according to the questions I asked. Students can share with you how well I did on the quizzes they gave me. It was interesting to see the questions about themselves, they wanted me to answer. We have begun a magnificent year. 7B Math--To get ready for the year, we focused on mindset, visualizing and strategies in math that will help us achieve success. Students talked about what is important when working in groups, what they like and don’t like to hear when working with classmates, and practiced working in groups with our activities. This class is building a strong foundation for the year. Algebra--We began the year with a focus on Mathematical Practices and mindset. Students are working on developing good strategies and understanding that success in math is more than calculations and procedures. I am stressing that there will be more focus on quality than quantity. Students will have to demonstrate understanding in many ways. The goal is not to be “done” with the lesson or homework, but to have learned from the lesson or homework. Rather than asking if homework is done, try asking what your student learned that day. Eighth Grade Math-- This class is building a strong foundation for the year. We focused on mindset, visualizing and strategies in math that will help us achieve success. Students talked about what is important when working in groups, what they like and don’t like to hear when working with classmates, and practiced working in groups with our activities. Next week will continue to work on thinking about math differently and using different strategies to prove understanding when finding the solution to a problem. Athletics--There is a new link on www.washcald.com. Under the extra-curricular tab, you will find a link to middle school athletics. Under this link you will find all important papers, sports offerings, schedules, driving directions, and contact information. I will also be posting the results of the Bulldog sporting events for all to see on this page. Please check in to see all the exciting athletic happenings. It was wonderful to see all those who attended Meet-N-Greet. I am looking forward to a fantastic year. Our theme is "Go for the Gold". Students should be doing their best to achieve all they can. They are working towards their own personal goals, their gold medal. The first week of school, we will be laying foundation for the rest of the school year. We will be covering the student handbook, expectations, materials, and important student skills. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. 2017-2018 here we come!
