Sixth Grade Social Studies--Students have begun to learn about Central America and the Caribbean Islands. These are found in Module 10 of their text books. We will begin with mapping and geographical features, then we will move on to individual countries. Students can watch Geography now videos on youtube about the countries we have and will be studying. They can also begin practicing the countries and their capitals. The test on Central America and the Caribbean will not be until after Thanksgiving break. Students have a completed map and a list of capitals.
Sixth Grade Math--We have been practicing decimal computation. Students will be worked on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimal numbers. Computational fluency requires practice. Please encourage your student to go on www.commoncoresheets.com or Khan Academy to find extra practice materials. Students will end their unit with an assessment on Tuesday, November 20th. The assessment will not include solving equations. We will cover solving equations after the Thanksgiving break.
Seventh Grade Math— Students will continue their unit on rational numbers. Students have been solving equations containing rational numbers. They are learning about inverse operations and balancing equations. Students are allowed calculators for this part of the unit. I will assess them on the process, not the computation on their test on Tuesday. The decimal test that will include word problems and equations on Tuesday, November 20th.
Eighth Grade Math-- We will begin our unit on rates and ratios next week. We will also try and do some holiday math activities. When we return from Thanksgiving break we will work on unit rates and ratios.
Algebra-- Students reviewed for their Chapter 4 test. They have online lesson quizzes and reviews, online practice test, review and test in their text book and a paper practice test. Students have plenty of resources use in preparation for their test. The Chapter 4 test will be on Monday, November 19th. Students were also given their large notecard that can be used on their semester exam in January. We have completed 4 of the 7 chapters that will be on the exam. Students can begin preparing their notecards if they would like to.
