Sixth Grade Social Studies
We will be starting with our unit on Europe. Students will be learning about the countries and people of Europe. This will go hand in hand with their studies in music. Students will need to be able to label a map including countries, cities, bodies of water and land forms in Europe.
Sixth Grade Math
Students have worked on problem solving strategies and solving problems multiple ways. Students will begin working in their text books. We will begin with the first unit working with estimation, exponents and division.
Seventh Grade Math
Students will begin the year with a unit on numbers and their operations. Students will be using mathematical properties to solve problems using mental math, translate and evaluate mathematical expressions, and simplify expressions. These are important when solving real world problems. We will be focusing on efficient ways to solve problems using these strategies.
Eighth Grade Math
Students have begun their review of computation of rational numbers. Students have been practicing number operations with rational numbers, including fractions and decimals. Students are also classifying numbers by their characteristics, and developing vocabulary. We will continue working in unit one using these skills to solve equations.
Algebra
Students have been working through a review of Chapter 1. They have completed individual and group tasks using the skills in unit 1. They will have a unit 1 assessment on Tuesday of next week. Once the assessment is complete, students will move on to a review of chapter 2. Both chapter 1 and 2 were taught last year, therefore we are only reviewing the chapters.
