In social studies the students have learned about the expectations of class, supplies needed and the topics that will be covered. The focus of sixth grade social studies is world geography. Next week we will be starting with our unit on Europe. Students will be learning about the countries and people of Europe. This will go hand in hand with their studies in music.
Sixth Grade Math
In math students discussed expectations, were given a list of supplies needed to be successful in math class, and discussed how important mistakes will be in math class. We will be working in groups learning how to communicate effectively and in a kind manner, solve problems using many methods and understanding vocabulary used in instructions. Students will be expected to step out of their comfort zone this year. This will allow them to grow and learn. Representing solutions in many ways will be the first focus.
Seventh Grade Math
Students will begin the year with a unit on numbers and their operations. Students will learn to classify numbers based on characteristics, perform operations, and learn the vocabulary needed to communicate their ideas clearly. As a class we went over expectations and supplies, set up iPads and Notebooks, and talked about the importance of respect since all students learn differently.
Eighth Grade Math
Students began the year with videos and discussions on the importance of tools and mistakes in math. Students know they may use resources to help them in math. Students also know that mistakes are expected, inspected and respected in the math classroom. Students will begin their mathematical journey with a unit on numbers. They will be converting numbers into different forms, classifying numbers by their characteristics, and developing vocabulary.
Algebra
Students began the year by reviewing mathematical practices. These are things a student can do to become outstanding math students. There are eight mathematical practices that were discussed. Students will begin with a review of chapter 1. The material in chapter 1 includes number operations, classification, and properties.
