Middle School will be holding their annual Middle School Parent’s Night on September 20.
It will begin at 6pm in the library. We hope to see you all there.
6th Grade Math---This week the sixth graders worked on interactive notebooks, more long division, and exponents. Students filled in their interactive notebooks with notes on these concepts and practiced the skills at centers. Please help your student by asking them daily how they are doing or what they learned in class that day. Next week we will be about half way through the chapter, so the students should expect a quiz on Chapter 1 on Tuesday.
7A Math---Students finished Chapter 1 this week with properties of numbers and combining like terms. Following a review on Monday, the students will have their first math assessment on Tuesday. The concepts of order of operations, combining like terms, properties of numbers, and mental math will be on the assessment. Please encourage your student to be able to explain these concepts to you verbally. If a student can explain it to someone else, they have a very good understanding of the material.
7B Math---The focus this week was on Order of Operations and Number Properties. The students used math stations to practice different order of operations activities. The students also practiced writing mathematical explanations about how the properties of numbers worked. Students should continue reviewing this material as we move forward next week in Chapter 1. Students will have a quiz on Tuesday on sections 1 and 2 of Chapter 1.
8th Grade Math—Students have been working hard on rational numbers. They have been adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals. We are half way through Chapter 1, so a quiz will take place next week. We will then apply all those computation skills to solving equations with the rational numbers. Many of the skills in Chapter 1 are a review of last year’s skills but take time and need to be practiced. Encourage your student to review homework and practice whenever they can to build a strong foundation of math skills.
Algebra---Week two meant Chapter 2 for Algebra. The students reviewed the ten sections of Chapter 2 this week completing online practice assessments. The class ended the week the Chapter 2 assessment. We will begin Chapter 3 with inequalities next week. All students need to have their Algebra binders (2 in or bigger works best) in class starting Monday.
