6th Grade Math---The sixth graders and I learned how to utilize Showbie for math a little better this week. I was able to send them notes, assignments and check progress as students were working. Take a little time and have your student show you their math notes and assignments from the week. We worked on the beginning of our Algebra unit using variables, charts and translating math expression. We will continue with the Algebra unit next week.
7A Math—Students completed chapter 2 and started chapter 3. Students are working on paying attention to details, completing work by showing processes, and quality rather than speed. We began our section on decimals and will continue it next week. Then there will be a quiz on decimals before beginning the section on fractions. This unit requires a lot of computation and remembering steps to algorithms. Please make sure your student is looking over their math daily.
7B Math--Chapter 1 has come to an end and our unit on integers has begun. Students are learning the rules for computation with integers, making visual models and learning how to cooperate productively in groups. Student should practice math facts and integers on commoncoresheets.com. This will help the students build a solid foundation for the skills in this unit.
8th Grade Math—Students created lessons in small groups that they will present throughout the next chapter. Students used their resources to define some vocabulary, look up math problems that were associated with the vocabulary and make a presentation. I encourage you to have your student share their lesson and the part they will have in the presentation with you. The more they practice, the better their presentation will go. In this unit students will be exposed to scientific notation, exponents, triangles and the Pythagorean Theorem.
Algebra—The assessment for the chapter on inequalities will be on Tuesday of next week. Students should use the weekend to prepare for their assessment. The next chapter will be the first chapter of the year that is not a review from last year. Students will need to use their resources as material becomes more challenging. Please check powerschool weekly to check your student’s progress and contact me if you have any questions.
