6th Grade Math---The sixth graders have been introduced to Algebra. We have been practicing writing expressions, evaluating them and translating them. We will begin next week with a quiz on Monday on the first three sections of Chapter 2. The rest of the week we will continue on through chapter 2 covering equations and how to solve them.
7A Math—Decimals was our focus for the first half of chapter 3. The students took a decimal quiz on Friday. The second half of chapter 3 focuses on fractions. We will work through the fraction portion of the chapter this week coming up. Students should plan on a test the week of October 24th that will be on all decimal and fraction sections.
7B Math---Students are working with integers in class. They will expand their use of integers to fractions, decimals, and percent next week. There are a few benchmark fractions that students are expected to have memorized. Students must know their conversions to decimal and percent form. Students have a list of the these. Please be sure that your student is practicing these so they are committed to memory. Students will be assessed on this next week.
8th Grade Math—We have worked our way through the first part of chapter 3. Students will have a quiz on Monday on the first 4 sections of chapter 3. The quiz will include exponents, order of operations, scientific notation and operations with scientific notation. Students will be allowed calculators for the operations with scientific notation only. Students should also have been working on their perfect squares list. Students need to recognize numbers as perfect square. Please be sure your student is practicing for the quiz and learning their perfect squares.
Algebra—The review is over. Students have now begun the first new chapter of the year. In chapter 4 students will be working with graphs, tables, coordinates and sequences. Students will need to be reviewing their class notes and homework daily. The material being presented is going to becoming challenging. Establishing good study habits and routine now will help as we delve into Algebra later this quarter.
