Ms. Bozio will be attending the regional math meet in Whitewater on January 15.

The end of the third quarter is on Thursday. Please encourage your student to check their binders and folders for any assignments or work they may have forgotten to turn in. All work must be turned in  by the end of the quarter.

Sixth Grade Social Studies-- Students will finish the semester with an assessment on South America. Students will review for the assessment next week with review activities. Students will need to understand important places, important people and the cultural of the region. Students will take their assessment on Thursday, January 17 in the morning.

Sixth Grade Math— Students will have an assessment on chapter eight to end the semester. The assessment will cover section 1 through section 6. Surface area will not be on the assessment.  The assessment will cover measurement systems, area and volume. Students will not be given a chart on the test, they should be practicing conversion units and formulas. The assessment will be on Wednesday, January 16 in the afternoon.

Seventh Grade Math— Students have been working through chapter seven. Students need to be proficient at fraction, decimal and percent conversions. They should have the benchmarks memorized and be able to use them to find multiples. Students also need to be able to write two step equations from word problems, manipulate them and solve them. These skills are found in the first half of chapter seven. Students will have a test on this material on Wednesday, January 16.

Eighth Grade Math--Students have been working on equations and graphing in chapter eight. The class will finish chapter eight next week with systems of equations. On Tuesday and Wednesday, students will review the material from chapter eight to prepare for their final test of the quarter. The test will be on Thursday, January 17 and will cover all the sections in chapter eight.

Algebra-- Students will spend the week reviewing material that will be on their exam. The exam will cover concepts from chapters one through seven. Students have been given a paper review and have access to many practice tests and quizzes online. None of the reviews are required, however I highly recommend practicing for the exam. I have spoken with the students about breaking up the material into chunks and doing a couple of chunks each night. Students will also need to use test taking strategies. There is a time restraint on the exam. Students need to utilize their time and be efficient to complete the exam in the allotted time. If students have questions they should see me prior to next week Thursday, the day of the exam.

Math Competitions

1/1/2019

Students in my section of Bulldog-TIme have been practicing for math competitions that are coming up. Students will be selected to compete based on problem solving ability in class, attitude, ability to work with others and basic skills. Students may be selected to complete in one competition, but not all. As students are selected, they will be notified and given permission slips to participate. The first of the math competitions is on January 15 in Whitewater. Four students from each of the grades 5-8 will compete in the regional math meet. In February, Washington will host both Math24 tournaments. The first tournament will be for the 4th and 5th grade competitors. The second tournament will be for the 6th and 7th grade competitors. In February, all students in grades 5-8 will participate in MathCON, a national math competition. The final competition of the year will be held after school in March. The is the Wisconsin Mathematics Council competition for the state. If you have any questions about these math competitions, please contact Ms. Bozio

6th Social Studies— Congratulations to Owen Lewandowski, Ben Nicolai, and Jaydon Ward who will represent sixth grade in the school Geography Bee. The Geography Bee will take place on Friday, January 4th at 1:45 p.m.
When we return from break, we will continue our study of South America.

6th Math— Students completed chapter four. When we return we will take a break from number theory and work with geometry. Students will review coordinates and graphing. Once chapter nine is complete we will go back to number theory and fractions.

7th Math—students completed chapter four and will move on to chapter six when returning from break. Chapter six focuses on percent. Students will find percent of numbers,  percent change, tax, discounts, and simple interest. Students will need a calculator to complete this unit successfully.

8th Math— students will begin their unit on graphing lines, equations and slope when we return from break. Students will need rulers, pencils and their iPads. We will use a free website called Desmos to create graphs and check the work we do by hand. Students will learn how the steepness of a line relates to the equation and how to use graphs to find missing information.

Algebra—Students will continue to work in chapter six when we return. Students will work to solve systems of equations and inequalities. Students will write linear equation systems from situations and then solve the systems. Students should be preparing for their semester exam. All students were given notecards to write out. They can use the note cards on the semester exam.

Sixth Grade Social Studies-- The sixth graders will be practicing for the Geography Bee. The classroom practice rounds will take place Monday through Wednesday. On Friday we will have the final competition. The top two students will then compete in the school Geography Bee on Thursday, January 4. Students can practice on their own using websites and their geography book.

Sixth Grade Math— The sixth grade class will continue their work with fractions, decimals and percent. Students need to continue to work on memorizing their benchmark fractions and practice converting from one form to another. Students will work with comparing the three forms and ordering the forms. To compare and order the same form will be used making it essential for students to convert accurately. Students will have an assessment on Wednesday, December 19.

Seventh Grade Math— Seventh grade will be reviewing next week. Students will participate in a variety of activities that will require them to recall information previously taught. We will also use I Have Who Has, Kahoot and other activities as a form of review.

Eighth Grade Math-- Eighth grade will be reviewing skills and working on coordinates. They will practice plotting points, finding percent of numbers, and practicing fraction operations. Students will practice these skills in many formats.

Algebra-- Students will continue their work in chapter 6. Students will be solving systems of equations. Students have learned to do this with graphing, They will now learn two other methods, substitution and elimination. Students will be able to ask any questions about their semester exam this week and start preparing their notecard. Students should use the break to start to prepare for the exam.

Math Team and Math 24

12/10/2018

During Bulldog time students have been practicing for the math meet and Math24 competition. Students are being presented with challenging problems and are working calculation skills. Students who are chosen to compete in the Math Meet and Math24 competition should not only be practicing in school, but should be practicing at home. If you would like to know the set of Math24 cards needed for the grade level competitions, please just let me know.  The Math Meet will be in the middle of January and the Math24 competition will be in the middle of February. See Ms. Bozio with any questions.
